Zabrak names are built to sound dangerous before the character does anything. Iridonians who leave home for the Jedi Order, bounty hunting, or the military usually carry a given name plus a surname, hard sounds front and back, like Eeth Koth or Agen Kolar. Dathomir's Nightbrothers, Maul's own tribe, mostly go by one blunt name, sometimes with Brother in front. This generator invents new names in that same register: short, hard-stopped, and built for menace rather than meaning.
How the name is built
The hard opening block of the given name, usually one punchy syllable like Vorak's Vor or Zarnek's Zarn. This is where the k, v, and z sounds that define the type live.
The short close that finishes the given name on a hard sound, like -ek or -ak. Zabrak given names almost always land here instead of trailing off soft.
The surname, worn mostly by Iridonian Zabraks and usually longer or harder than the given name in front of it, as with Torveth and Vandroth.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- End given names on a hard stop like k, th, l, or s, the way Maul, Eeth, and Sirak do.
- Give Iridonian characters a surname that outruns the given name in length, as with Agen Kolar and Kao Cen Darach.
- Keep Nightbrother names to one hard word, adding Brother in front if you want a title, as in Brother Viscus.
Don’t
- Don't end a Zabrak given name on a soft trailing vowel like a or o, it breaks the hard-stop pattern the type relies on.
- Don't invent a translation for these names, the published corpus never explains what Maul or Koth actually means.
- Don't stack Darth in front of a Nightbrother name unless the character is genuinely a Sith.
- Iridonian Jedi and soldiers: given plus surname, both hard, surname often the longer half, as with Eeth Koth and Agen Kolar.
- Dathomir Nightbrothers: a single blunt name, optionally fronted with Brother, as with Brother Viscus and Savage before he got a surname.
- Female Zabraks often close soft on -i or -a even while the rest of the name stays hard, as with Sugi and Yevra.
